Variations on a Theme

Sweater for R

This sweater is going to a special little girl who is turning one. Stefan and I are fake Uncle and Aunt to her and her older brother. Her parents are fake to our kids too. Anyway, today is her first birthday party and this sweater is among her gifts. My real niece and Katrina each have a sweater like this too. I like this yarn — it’s chunky, soft, and machine washable — so I bought a bunch of it when I thought it was being discontinued a few years ago. This sweater got me through just about all of what was left. I maybe have enough for a baby/toddler hat or two now. The sweater has actually been languishing in my knitting box since before the birthday girl was born needing just a sleeve and a collar. Hooray for having a project almost finished!

One thing I really love about knitting is how different the same pattern can look in different yarn. This birthday sweater is the same pattern as this one and this one too. I have made this sweater six times total and I imagine I’ll be making it again in the future. I’ll have to get the original sweater — the one made with the BAM yarn — from my sister to take a photo and get the set up-to-date.

I love them all! Maybe it’s time to get back to practicing my knitting.

it really is amazing how different yarns completely change the look of the sweater. They are all cute, however, that top one has to be my absolute favorite. It’s just so sweet! I am so impressed at your knitting abilities~

the varation on a theme is something that I am considering as a quilter. it’s fun to see how one pattern can look so completely different by changing the fabrics. (too bad quilting is so time intensive!) and I find that I want to try something new each time.

I know what you mean about the different yarns and the same pattern…only for me it’s the same pattern and different fabrics. It’s amazing and thrilling. I the one with the blue bumps…gorgeous. xoxo

I’m completely taken with the red bobbly cardigan. If only I could knit…
