Little Gentleman’s Socks

Little Gentleman Socks

More ill-fitting handknits on my children. So I started these socks for Tristan on the airplane home from CA in September. I initially was planning to knit a smaller size of Nancy Bush’s Gentleman’s Fancy Socks from Knitting Vintage Socks so I started with a 2×2 rib cuff. I decided the Gentleman’s Sock with Lozenge Pattern would work better but I just kept the ribbing I had already done. Essentially I just halved the pattern to make it small enough for Tristan.

As it turns out though it wasn’t really small enough. I realized this as I started to turn the heel. Rather than frog the whole thing I tried the sock on Katie. It fit — as you can see in the second photo. So, I made the sock Katie sized knowing that Tristan’s foot is only going to get bigger. There is plenty of yarn left so I will probably make another pair — maybe a plain stockinette sock — to fit my little gentleman now.

Little Gentleman’s Socks
Pattern: Little Gentleman’s Sock with Lozenge Pattern
Yarn: Cherry Tree Hill Supersock Merino in Java colorway
Yardage: less than 1/2 420 yard skein
Needles: US size 3
Modifications: I cast on 40 stitches, knit a 10 round 2×2 rib for the cuff and knit through the pattern 5 times before knitting the heel.

The socks are great, but that little leg of his totally steals the show. Precious!

Well on either model they look seriously cute to me. The colour choice is great too!
