This year I had an early brainstorm about what to give Katrina’s preschool teachers for Christmas. Katrina loves dyeing yarn so I got some bulky natural yarn. Next she asked her teachers to tell her their favorite colors. Then we dyed the yarn to those colors using easter egg dye I bought last spring on clearance for 10 cents per box. Then I knit the yarn — amazingly soft even after dyeing — into scarves. Although the brainstorm was early I was still knitting the end of these yesterday. All in all each scarf cost me less than four bucks — $3.49 for each skein of yarn and about a dime worth of dye — and I’d say that’s money well spent.
Pattern: My So Called Scarf.
Yarn: from Knit Picks Bare – bulky weight
Yardage: one 137 yard skein for each scarf
Needles: US size 13
Modifications: I used a bulkier yarn and bigger needles but it’s scarves, so who cares.
